Transparency

This page reports what outside parties — governments, courts, litigants — have asked us for, and what we handed over. We publish it twice a year, and we will publish it in years when the numbers are not zero as well as in years when they are.

What we could hand over

A count of zero is only meaningful alongside what a request would actually get. If we were served with a valid order tomorrow, this is what exists to be produced — and we would rather you knew it now, from us, than worked it out later.

What we hold. Your account details, and your stored content: conversations, notes, reminders, projects and memories. All of it is stored encrypted apart from the scaffolding around it — dates, counts and flags — but we hold the key, so we are capable of decrypting it. This is set out in full on our security page.

What does not exist to be produced. We never hold your password — sign-in goes through Google or Apple. We do not hold your card number; Stripe does. And the AI providers we route through are never told whose account a message came from, so an order served on them could not connect a conversation to you.

What we will do. We require valid legal process, we do not hand over data voluntarily, and we will tell you if you are the subject of a request unless we are legally barred from doing so. Where a request is overbroad or defective we will push back on it.

Warrant canary

As of the publication date above, Secure AI has never received a national-security request, a gag order, or any demand that we cannot describe on this page. We have never been compelled to modify our systems to facilitate surveillance, and no such request is outstanding.

We restate this every time the page is updated. If this section disappears, or stops being refreshed on schedule, read that as meaningful.

The limits of this page

Some legal processes carry restrictions on what may be said about them, and in some jurisdictions the existence of a request cannot be disclosed at all. A transparency report can only report what it is permitted to. We will report at the finest granularity the law allows, and say plainly where it does not allow any.
